An open letter from Julia Hewagama

Dear MNZAS Audiologists,

Thank you for the warm welcome in Queenstown.

It was a pleasure to meet with so many passionate professionals and to have the opportunity to share our vision for the industry. If we did not get the chance to meet in person or speak over the phone and you wish to learn more, please take this opportunity to connect with us.

It’s remarkable to think that four weeks have passed since we first presented to the wider audience of audiologists and asked, “Are you ready for Specsavers Audiology?”

In that short time conversations have been had, meetings have taken place and our first two partners have signed! The interest in our plans has exceeded our expectations, and in response my colleague Paul and I will continue to meet with other audiologists seeking partnership opportunities.

You might have heard opinions from others talking about our intentions and plans with regards to our business model in New Zealand – and in some cases, these opinions have been somewhat lacking a basis in fact. Accordingly, I wanted to address these rumours for you and any others that may arise, to ensure that you make the right choice for your future, based on truth not myth.

Firstly, as a partner in a Specsavers business you have a guaranteed salary of $100,000 plus KiwiSaver– there are no fees or hidden costs that are deducted from your salary, whatsoever (clearly other than the tax man taking their share!).

Secondly, as a partner in a Specsavers business, you are entitled to five weeks of annual leave.

Thirdly, our 15 minute check appointment is an opportunity for you to build a relationship and rapport with your customer so that you may understand their needs before progressing to a full one hour assessment.

Finally, your shares in the business are an asset and when the time comes for you to retire out of the business, a new partner will purchase these from you at a value that reflects the business performance.

With around only 25 or so opportunities for partnership available in New Zealand, my advice to you is to put yourself first and not let others hold you back from the opportunity to explore being part of something extraordinary. The time to talk with us is now!

Yours sincerely,

Julia Hewagama
